The Casebook of Elisha Grey V has been published through www.smashwords.com this week. It's available on all e-pub platforms (because it lives in the cloud!) just like its predecessor volumes.
As Kamay Pellay says in this volume, "everything changes". He's not the only one to utter those words. Lives change, relationships change; even the socio-political reality of Atlantis changes.
In the first story, "The Pilferings in Albion", Kiara Ptolmai travels for her own safety at Elisha Grey's suggestion to Albion with Kamay Pellay as her companion. This arrangement allows Elisha Grey to remain behind in the capitol of Atlantis to see if Kiara Ptolmai is indeed being followed by someone associated with the death of her lover, Astanax Seneca; in addition, it provides an opportunity for Kamay Pellay to meet another weatherchanger and seer, Rowan Fisher. The "vacation" takes an unexpected turn when Rowan Fisher and his handfasted wife Ivy Hunter relate a strange series of thefts of common household objects. What transpires is an encounter between people who have been visiting Albion for a long time -- yet undetected because they are able to circumvent the psychic bond between everyone in the village. When Kiara sees them, she realizes she has met them before: at a monastery in Atlantis many years prior.
The second story, "The Men Robbed of Their True Wealth" brings a series of murders to Elisha Grey's attention that appear to not only have been committed by the same person, but possibly a member of the hetirae. Relying upon his sister Mara Grey's knowledge of her colleagues, the investigation prompts Elisha Grey to put himself in the position of being bait for the murderess.
The last story, "The Fall from the High Place" chronicles Kiara Ptolmai's transition from student to working architect and the ramifications of being stalked by an impeccably talented and reliable co-worker on the construction site.
The Casebook of Elisha Grey VI will offer three more mysteries encountered by Elisha Grey, his chronicler Kiara Ptolmai, and their closest friends.
