In the third novelette of the first installment of The Casebook of Elisha Grey, the mystery revolves around young women below the age of majority (25) who have been reported missing following the funeral of a major diplomat of Atlantis. Elisha Grey turns to his collective sister, Mara Grey, his stunningly beautiful older collective sister and a member of the hetirae (professional companions) for clues, as he has been asked by Chiron -- the demiequine multimorph and his companion Phaedra, a demireptilian multimorph -- to find their adopted daughter who is a chimera noted for her singing voice and has been reported missing at the same time.
As they discover that the young women have been recruited to be odalisques – multiple wives for a wealthy young man living on the coast of the Middle Sea – Elisha Grey and his associate Kiara Ptolmai not only need to travel by airship away from Atlantis, but in the course of their investigation find themselves face to face with well-known organized crime boss Samax Rex Pahadron, who will be a regular presence in The Casebook of Elisha Grey II, III, IV and V.
