Elisha Grey, a middle aged bachelor, born and raised in Atlantis, is the forerunner of a new profession -- consulting detective -- due in part to his extensive academic training combined with natural curiosity, and the changes in Atlantean society with regard to crime during the Second Era. Like many native Atlanteans, he has dark hair, dark eyes, and skin the color of the earth.
Raised in a smaller town outside the capitol city, Elisha Grey, like the majority of Atlanteans, was raised by foster parents in a children's collective, where he had five collective siblings while he was growing up. He doesn't know who his natural parents are, which was not unusual in Atlantean culture. He moved to the capitol city knowing no one at the time. He is a postgraduate student and lecturer at the Temple of Learning, where his subjects of study over his time there include chemistry, biology, geology, music, anthropology, history, literature, philosophy, ethics, and criminology. He is also adept at archery.
Lean and able to move stealthily, nonetheless his social manners sometimes are abrupt. His sense of style tends toward no style at all -- monochrome, drab, comfortable and practical; and while some Atlanteans prefer to wear their long, black hair in a varying array of braids or other cuts, he simply leaves his long and ties it back to keep it out of the way. Although hovercraft are easily available for moving quickly from place to place in the city, or even to other towns, Elisha Grey only uses them when time is of the essence or walking is not an option.
Unlike the majority of Atlanteans, he considers the multimorphs (human/animal hybrids that resulted from genetic experimentation) to be not only his equals but in some cases his allies in solving crimes.
Nothing will pique his curiosity more -- which is insurmountable -- than an unexplained crime that he finds in the daily news of the two main papers, The Sun and The Bee, which he reads regularly. As long as the person or persons wronged are genuine in their request for his help, regardless of their station in society and his attitude toward their station, he is willing to do what he can to help them.
